Loay Ironsmith Tour Experience

In this day and age of modernization, industrialization, and mass production, you’d think that many, if not most parts of the world ought to be enjoying the benefits of cheap and readily-available goods. But surprisingly, most parts of the world, particularly the rural areas, have yet to enjoy the free flow of products and services from the more urbanized areas.

Tour Experience

To make do in their isolated locations, these towns and villages have become, for the most part, self-sufficient. It is here in the town of Loay, in Bohol, that there reside several blacksmiths, who forge, shape, and craft all manner of metallic materials, tools, and objects that the local farmers need, but can’t readily get.

But why would a tourist want to pay a visit to a far-flung metalworking shop, in a far-flung town of sorts? Why, to get a glimpse of what it was like in the olden days, of course! Granted, the workshop has a few modern conveniences to help in making the process go faster, but it is here that the practices of blade-craft and metalworking have remained fairly unchanged since the town first started.

Tourists will be able to witness first-hand the medieval-esque romance of handcrafting a slab of metal into other variety of tools and weapons, with nothing but the sweat of the artisans’ brows and their dedication towards the art. Tourists can even delight in asking for a bolo or machete of their choice to be made for them, as well as try their hand at making and designing their own! Now, wouldn’t that be exciting to come back to your friends, holding in your hands a grand tool, you’ve created by yourself?

So what are you waiting for? Come on down to Loay, Bohol, take a trip down history lane, and come back with an experience and memento into the beginnings of an art that has helped forge the destiny of man since the early days.
