Bohol made its presence felt in 2024 Powerful Daegu Festival when “Tribu Bol-anon” won the silver award in the global category and grabbed the Best Global Award.

The Powerful Daegu Festival, one of Asia’s largest street parades, drew 94 entries from various countries this year that competed in the ultimate showdown of cultural performances held on May 10–12 in Gukchaebosang-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, Metropolitan City, South Korea.

Tribu Bol-anon advanced to the finals after a series of eliminations and was the only delegate from the Philippines who competed with three finalists, including Taiwan, Japan, and China.

The Tagbilaran City performers represented Tribu Bol-Anon and showcased a fused presentation based on Bohol’s iconic festivals, Saulog, and Sandugo.

The Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations of Daegu curated the event with support from the cultural and artistic community and citizens.

The festival’s main attractions include the citizen-participatory Daegu Parade and the Powerful Parade, a harmonious gathering of domestic and international performers.

The three-day event started with energetic street cultural performances by local artists, followed by citizen festivals where people of all ages can participate and enjoy directly, including an art festival, an art competition, and food zones.

Before this, a cultural exchange visit took place in August 2022 to foster friendship and establish bilateral ties between the local government units of Daegu City and the province of Bohol.

As part of Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado’s strategic change agenda, the provincial government aspires to establish friendships with other local government units in the Philippines and worldwide to foster cooperation across various domains, including culture.

The cultural exchange with Daegu City aligns with the provincial government’s goal to strengthen bilateral ties and to promote Boholano arts, culture, and heritage through the Center for Culture and Arts Development. (PiMO/JSS)
